CREATIVE ADVENTURE RETREATS - IN THE GREATER TORONTO AREA!

Creative Adventures is designed specifically for non-artists – no experience required – just a willingness to be open-minded and embrace play! Our goal is not to teach you to be a painter but rather, to expose you to a number of different creative activities that allow you to figure out what really sparks your interest. It is about play, experimentation and getting your hands messy. Remember what it felt like to do art classes as a child? We want to reintroduce you to that enthusiastic experience trading "perfection" for movement and guided creative freedom!

ENCAUSTIC ADVENTURE - Led by Angela Kuipers Lane

Angela Kuipers Lane is an impressionistic painter creating rich, colourful art in mixed media encaustic that reflect her “Happy Places”  — the connections of joy, beauty and energy experienced in nature.

This fun and informative workshop will cover basic safety and general information needed to explore the wonderful world of encaustic painting. This workshop is perfect for beginners and artists alike who are looking to explore this spontaneous process of painting with beeswax. All supplies included. You will play with building and fusing layers of beeswax, using a variety of hot tools and techniques. Create your own masterpieces through adding and subtracting to create texture or reveal shapes and colours below. Incorporating mark-making techniques, you will blend intention with spontaneity, allowing each piece to evolve organically. Techniques including incising, embed materials, photo transfers, use of the stylus tool, pan pastels, oil stick, stencils and indian ink will all be covered. 

Encaustics is an ancient art form that involves fusing layers of  beeswax based paint using various heating techniques.  As the layers are built up, objects can be embedded in the wax and gouging techniques can be incorporated to create shapes and designs.  Colours are used simultaneously to add depth and beauty to the work.  Encaustics is a unique medium which allows participants to explore their creativity while effectively engaging the senses.  It is both deeply therapeutic while at the same time promotes a sense of play.

At the end of each day, celebrate your creative achievements with new friends and take home your masterpiece and treasured memories.

COST: $375 + HST each workshop or $600 +HST if you register for both - a savings of $150

All you need to do is get yourself there!

Everything you need will be ready for you including all artist grade supplies for the workshops. We start the morning with creativity exercises and then move into embracing the painting medium of the day. Additional techniques are introduced throughout the afternoon. Each guest will work on a 6"x6" panel, an 8"x8 panel and multiple 'postcards" each day.
Refreshments including coffee, tea and water available throughout the day as well as a continental breakfast and light lunch.
